Kurt Sovine
Associate Superintendent for Multiplication

Why you want to talk to him:

  • Church planting | Your heart is pulled toward starting a new work in a certain community.
  • Emerging leadership development | You recognize ministry leadership potential in someone.
  • Licensing, ordination, and consecration | You (or someone you know) has a call to ministry, but needs some guidance in the next steps.

Kurt has served in over 22 years of formal ministry, having been called to study pastoral ministry at Toccoa Falls College straight out of high school.  He has most recently served in the pastorate at Connexion in Danville, IL.  For the past number of years Kurt has also been part of the multiplication team in the Midwest District and in the Central Region (which roughly includes states from Colorado to West Virginia).  Knowing already that he had been gifted with service, this latter responsibility employed additional gifts that have been remarkably life giving to him – gifts of leadership and leadership development.  Therefore, upon receiving the invitation to join the Midwest District team in this capacity, Kurt was affirmed that this role would fit him well because of how all three of these gifts were combined.

In his personal life, Kurt loves hunting and fishing. All of it. Yes.  In bringing levity to the serious nature of the COVID-19 pandemic, his self-isolation plan is to quarantine in southern Georgia with his hunting gear.  Additionally, the Sovine family (his wife, Kimberly, and two daughters, Ansley and Alyssa) really enjoy traveling together.  God often uses the people immediately around us to teach us something greater about himself or his Kingdom, and Kurt’s daughters have taught him when it is appropriate to reframe his priorities.Recently Kurt’s attention has been caught by the end of Exodus 2:25 in the ESV, “…God saw the people of Israel – and God knew.” Another verse that has always been a substantial part of Kurt’s life is 1 Thessalonians 5:24, “The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.”  Perhaps that’s why Exodus 2:25 is so relevant in this calling to the Midwest District. Kurt says, “Stepping into callings beyond me could be daunting.  I don’t have a strong sense of, ‘I got this!’  I do have a strong steady sense of peace in knowing that God is there, and present, and aware.”
