Why you want to talk to her:

  • Church Reporting | You know you need to fill out an annual report, but some how-to tips would be welcome.
  • Financial Reporting | You would love some additional explanation of your quarterly treasurer reports.
  • District Funds | You would like someone to explain to your treasurer how the DMB is different than the CM and the GCF (or you’re already wondering what all those letters even stand for).

In 2010, God put a desire in Mary’s heart to serve Him with her entire life and to serve others. The roadblock, she thought, was that she already had a great paying full-time job that she had spent the last seven years working her way up from cashier to corporate office without any college education.  Would she have to give up what was certain for what was uncertain?  What would that look like?  Surrender.  Mary surrendered her right to hang on to certainty and opened herself up to God moving her in a new direction.  The very next day she was laid off of her corporate job and began the journey (including tuition-free college) toward an unexpected ministry – administration.  It took years and months and hours and minutes of waiting for God’s voice and timing, but He was faithful to bring Mary to a place of ministry where she is using her detail-oriented skills, her spiritual administrative gifts, and her servant’s heart to love the Midwest District family.

Aside from her fabulous taste in fashionable footwear, Mary is known for her love of cooking – especially with the love of her life, her husband, Ed, by her side.  She’ll tackle just about anything… except for some slimy-sounding types of seafood.  Mary is also proud that her backyard is becoming quite the animal sanctuary.  She has an outdoor play enclosure for her two Maine Coon cats, three bird feeders, and she and Ed leave food out for the chipmunks and rabbits.  The yard must be gaining a reputation because earlier this week there was a parakeet visiting on the fence!  Animals are just a small example, Mary explains, of the variety of creation that God gave us to enjoy.  She loves marveling at wildlife, nature, and even the variety in ethnicities, which results in her heart glorifying her Creator God.“Most recently,” Mary shares, “I’ve been praying that God will sanctify my mind by his truth each morning before I even open his Word.”  It’s her breath prayer.  “The only way we can be transformed is to be submitted to God, acknowledging him, and being willing to listen and respond to him.”  In explaining how she understands his voice in her life, Mary shared a lesson she has learned from Transformation Intensive, inspired by the spiritual exercises of Ignatius of Loyola: Pay attention to the tears.  Mary is not naturally an emotive person, so when (in the listening) she is overcome with emotion, she pays attention to see what truth God wants to reveal about that emotion.  With the big decisions in life, God seems to use big flashing neon signs for her; but with the transformative work he keeps it private between the two of them.  He is gentle and subtle; convicting without shaming, which begets repentance rather than guilt.
